Sunday Recap: Day Two, Skate Race, of Our Eastern Cup Pursuit Style Racing Weekend ~
Day two was both an epic and extremely successful day of Pursuit style racing at our Eastern Cup opener in Craftsbury VT. The day dawned with rain, that turned to pouring rain by the time the women went off at 11am, and then changed to snow when the men raced at 12:30pm. Nothing like New England weather! The racing was fast, furious, and fun! We had 132 women go off in the span of 13 minutes and 170 men in 19 minutes – both of those groups racing 10k on a 2.5k course! Our U16’s raced 5k.
Our top finishers for Sunday Skate Race podiums were:
For U16 boys – Will Koch, SMS, first place; Joshua Valentine, Gunstock Nordic took second; and Olivier Levelle, Orford, was third.
For U16 girls – Anna Lehmann, SMS, first place; Laura Appleby, CSU juniors, took second; and Abigail Streinz, OSI was third.
For the open women – Elizabeth Guiney, Craftsbury Green Team, first place; Julia Kern, SMS Elite Team took second; and Ida Sargent, Craftsbury Green Team, was third.
For the open men – Patrick Caldwell, SMS Elite, first place; Ben Lustgarten, Craftsbury Green Team took second; and Karl Schulz, UVM was third.
A HUGE THANK YOU to the wonderful organizers, groomers, volunteers, and everyone who works at COC, for hosting such a great race weekend!
