December 18, 2016 by Amie Smith Leave a Comment

NENSA’s Eastern Cup race series started today under snowy skies and beautiful mid-winter conditions.  Craftsbury Outdoor Center once again hosted an absolutely wonderful race day.  Today was day one, of a two-day Pursuit style race, with a classic interval start.

U16 boys raced a 5k with Will Koch, SMS placing first, Olivier Leveille, Orford, came in second, and Mats Halvorsen, Nakkertok Nordique, was third.

U16 girls raced a 5k along with the open women.  Anna Lehmann, SMS was first, Justine Brown, Fondeurs Laurentides, came in second, and Abigail Streinz, OSI, was third.

For the women, the Craftsbury Green Racing Project teammates swept the podium.  There was a tie for first, with Ida Sargent and Kaitlynn Miller both having times of 17:20.9, and Elizabeth Guiney, was third.

In 10k the men’s race, Benjamin Lustgarten, Craftsbury Green Racing Project, placed first, Patrick Caldwell, SMS Elite Team came in second, and Silas Eastman, Colby College, came in third.

Day two of racing kicks off tomorrow at 10am with a Skate race.  All racers starts will be based on their time back from their finish today.  It will be an exciting day of racing for sure!  Stay tuned!
