It’s hard to believe, but we are already halfway through our 2018-2019 Citizen Racing calendar. Despite multiple freeze thaw cycles, ten of the twenty races listed on the Zak and Club Cup Series have gone off flawlessly thanks to our amazing venues across New England. The enthusiasm of our touring centers putting on the races is only overshadowed by the energy of racers – from first time skiers to our diehard masters.
And speaking of Zak and Club racing – 114 men and 41 women are currently listed in our age group rankings for 2019. Many of the battles are tight and with so many races on this years schedule things will stay interesting until the Craftsbury Spring Fling on March 9th. In the Zak overall rankings, Eli Enman of NWVE, has snuck into the lead with an impressive 97 points for his best of five races. NWVE club mate, Tyler Magnan, and Stowe Nordic’s Neal Graves — both who have competed in seven races already — are lurking and looking to take top honors. On the women’s side, Sara Graves of Stowe Nordic, has taken a commanding early lead with 110 points — but there are many opportunities left for Kasie Enman (NWVE) and Kathy Maddock (Dublin XC) who has won every Zak event she’s entered this year to push for the 2019 title.
In Club rankings NWVE continues to show that they are the force to be reckoned with, leading CSU by over 200 points. Craftsbury is putting on a tremendous show this season, currently sitting in third, spurred on by elite athletes (both skiers and rowers) and their deep club structure. Mansfield Nordic, Ford Sayre and Stowe Nordic are having their own battle — all within 65 points and with a few good showings in striking distance of the Club podium.
Zak and Club racing moves to Maine this weekend with the John Roderick Marathon and the Flying Moose Classic.
