NENSA Zak & Club Cup Series Information and Series Listing
Schedule Below. (Event Names are clickable to open registrations).
The Zak and Club Cup Series brings together NENSA’s New England’s finest citizen races and marathons. These open events offer regional racing opportunities for developing skiers, and season-long head-to-head competition for senior and masters. There are often Bill Koch age offerings held in conjunction with many of the events. All events that are part of this Zak Cup Series are also scored for Club Cup points. One distance (per age group) on each day is scored for the Zak Cup to ensure appropriate competition within age groups. All timed race distances will be scored to Club Cup scoring by overall placement.
NENSA scores Zak Cup races to both age group and overall rankings throughout the winter for seniors and masters skiers who have a NENSA membership number. Age group ranking is compiled by five year age groups for masters starting at 30 years of age, seniors (ages 20-29) are scored as one group. The Series is named after Vlastimil Zak, who died unexpectedly when he fell through the ice on Squam Lake, New Years Eve, 1979. Zak’s enthusiasm and dedication to our sport lives on in the Zak Series.
Club Cup events also serve a vital role for our community, serving those who seek local and lower key events and clubs that incentivize skier participation based on Club Cup points. Starting in 2020-2021 NENSA changed the Club scoring mechanism to incorporate our entire non-Championship racing calendar to more accurately represent the spectrum and strength of all clubs throughout the Eastern division. This point system is based on overall placement across our Eastern Cup, Zak and Club events. Active NENSA clubs from anywhere in the East are scored on a weekly basis and each years schedule is crafted so that we can have a popular race championships at the end of the season where we can award Zak and Club Champions in person — this year that takes place at the Middlebury Snow Bowl on March 20th at the conclusion of the Rikert Grand Prix.
During the pandemic season of 2020-2021 NENSA incorporated Virtual events in both Zak and Club scoring. We learned that Virtual experiences can bring together our community in beneficial ways, Virtual Competitions may be scored to the Club Cup.
