The 2025 U.S. Ski & Snowboard Junior National Championships will be held at Solider Hollow in Midway, Utah Monday, March 10th – Saturday, March 15th, 2025.
The New England Team coaching staff is selected through an application process that aims to support our young athletes with a strong team, blending some of our most experienced coaches with those who are ready to take the next step in their coaching career. Coaches who have attended JN’s several years in a row may be rotated with newer coaches. This ensures an educational pathway for coach development within our region.
A team of 50+ plus athletes takes a massive behind-the-scenes effort to ensure the athletes have the best experience they can once they arrive as a team. This is accomplished by a volunteer staff of six Age Group Coaches, five Ski Service Technicians, a Head Coach and a Trip Leader.
NENSA will follow our guidelines on USSS Certification to Staff JNs. You must have an active NENSA membership and an active USSS L100 certification to be considered. Coaches who are pursuing USSS L100 but not active may apply, but must be current by the start of JNs.
You must be available Saturday, March 8th through Sunday, March 16th. Expenses for travel, lodging, and food are provided in exchange for your dedicated service throughout the trip. All Please acquaint yourself with the NE JN Team page before applying.
All applications due by December 1st. Questions? Email Ben Theyerl at [email protected]
Thank you, and we look forward to another robust pool of applicants to help us Staff an excellent team for Junior Nationals!
Junior Nationals Staff Roles
Support for a team of 50+ skiers requires a patient and collaborative staff that is able to provide excellent support to all aspects of a skier’s performance.
To do so, we broadly have 2 different roles, with Age Group Coaches supporting our athlete’s race preparation efforts and overall well-being throughout the trip, while Service Staff oversee the technical preparation of skis to make sure that our athletes have the tools they need to race well.
Age Group Coach Description (6) – Responsible for being the primary point person for athletes in their assigned age group. Age Group Coaches work collaboratively with each other, the Head Coach, and the Trip Leader to set the daily training or race schedule for their age group, coordinate meal times, meeting times, and activities outside of racing. Age Group Coaches also provide support during races (taking splits, providing extra equipment etc…), and provide individual support to athletes within their age group. Age Group Coaches may also work with service staff when requested to assist with service needs on race day. In particular, U20 coaches should be prepared to ski “test track” kilometers (a lot of them, on a very small loop!)
Positions: U16 Boys Age Group Coach, U16 Girls Age Group Coach, U18 Boys Age Group Coach, U18 Girls Age Group Coach, U20 Boys Age Group, U20 Girls Age Group.
Ski Service Staff Descriptions (5) – Our Ski Service staff is split into two collaborative teams overseeing Kick and Glide, with a Head of Service overseeing the entire Service Staff.
Head of Service (1) – Oversee ski service for all of Team New England. The Head of Service makes the final call on wax selection and application methods in collaboration with the Kick team and Glide team, and also coordinates the Service Staff team’s daily cleaning, testing, preparation, and service duties in line with the race schedule. May also advise in ski selection for athletes. The Head of Service must be highly experienced in managing preparation of a high volume of skis for very tight race schedules. Previous experience as a technician at a Championship-style, week long event is required. Venue experience and/or knowledge of typical man-made and/or western snow conditions will also be considered at Soldier Hollow.
Glide Team Technicians (2) – The glide team oversees testing of glide wax products and application methods, and is responsible for final glide preparation of all race skis. The Head of Glide will work in tandem with another glide technician, with the Head of Glide making final preparation calls with the Head of Service. The glide team will also work in close collaboration with the kick team to help prepare skis on classic race days. Glide technicians must have knowledge in contemporary wax products and application methods in the fluoro-free environment. Venue experience and/or knowledge of typical man-made and/or western snow conditions will also be considered at Soldier Hollow.
Kick Team Technicians (2) – The kick team oversees testing of kick wax products and application methods, and is responsible for final kick preparation for all race skis. The Head of Kick will work in tandem with another kick technician, with the Head of Kick making final preparation calls with the Head of Service. The kick team’s primary responsibility is kick, but they may assist with glide preparation on skate race days. Kick technician’s must have knowledge in contemporary kick products and application methods. Venue experience and/or knowledge of typical man-made and/or western snow conditions will also be considered at Soldier Hollow.
