Mt Van Hoevenberg Welcome Letter

Welcome to the two-time Olympic Village of Lake Placid, NY! As host of the 1932 & 1980 Olympic Winter Games and 1972 & 2023 FISU World University Games, we have a responsibility to carry on the legacy of winter sport in Lake Placid providing opportunities for continuous growth and development of Nordic ski racing to all levels of competitors. We have produced top athletes that have gone on to National and Olympic teams in Nordic sports and we seek to continue this tradition of competitive excellence. We are thrilled to host the 2024 US Ski & Snowboard XC Junior National Championships at Mt Van Hoevenberg, where the next generations of champions will be crowned.

Bib Pick-up
Bibs will be picked up from the Race Office located on the 2nd Floor of the Mountain Pass Lodge. Wax Cabins & Athlete Area
Wax Cabins
Each Division will be provided with two 12×16 Waxing Cabins. Each cabin is outfitted with two Swix benches with two integrated wax forms. They also contain garbage and recycling receptacles, 1 broom, 1 shovel, several hooks on either side of the doors, heat, electrical outlets, and chairs.

Wax Cabins & Athlete Area Continued…
Parking in the Athlete area is prohibited. Please note that parking during load-in will be limited to 20 minutes. Drop-off and Pick-up may take place at the entrance to the lodge (Lot B & C). Parking for coaches, parents and staff will be available in Lots B & C. Any vehicles parked in the Athlete area are subject to towing.
Athlete Area
There will be a vendor/sponsor village in the athlete area with demos, giveaways, and program information.
There will be live timing and scoring in the Athlete Area located near Cabin #1/ Sub Race Office. There will be light refreshments available to athletes ONLY in Wax Cabin #1. Course Maps, Start Lists and Results will also be available in Wax Cabin #1/ Sub Race Office.
We ask that divisions are respectful of the Athlete area and extend good sportsmanship beyond the field of play.
For anyone looking to tailgate or bring picnic-style foods and beverage, please note that electric is available in Lot A. (Lot next to Wax Cabin Lot)
Registration
Registration will take place at the Lake Placid Conference Center in the Edelweiss & Excelsior Rooms. This will include verifying divisional rosters, payment in the form of check made to “NYS Olympic Regional Development Authority” for fees associated with divisions and staff over quota, athlete welcome bags, as well as general information.
Nomination of Special Awards
Division Heads will be able to nominate their choices for various special awards at the Friday, March 15, 2024 Team Captains Meeting in the Lussi B&C Ballroom within the Lake Placid Conference Center.

Opening Ceremonies
Each Division will participate in a Parade of Divisions held on Sunday, March 10, 2024. We ask that athletes report to Miracle Plaza in the Olympic Center at 18:30 where they will be asked to have 1 athlete selected to carry the Division Placard and 1 athlete for the Torch Lighting Ceremony.
Parent Program
The goal of the Parent Program is to provide a memorable experience while in Lake Placid for the parents of the ski racers entered in the 2024 US Ski & Snowboard XC Junior National Championships. Parents may also choose to volunteer!

Parent’s Lounge and Social
During Competition days, the Rossignol Parent’s Lounge at Henry’s Tavern will be open with food all day. This is located on the 3rd Floor of the Mountain Pass Lodge. The Bar will be open during limited hours on competition days.
