The fifth Maine Event will be held Sunday, October 22nd at Black Mountain in Rumford, Maine in cooperation with the Chisholm Ski Club. #backinblack
The event was the first open Rollerski Cross Country Cross event (XCX) in the world. An exciting summer version of Cross Country Cross (XCX) builds on aspects of both sprinting and agility. Originally designed for regional collegiate skiers, we are thrilled to see the growth in participation each year from high school, club and masters skiers. Come to compete, gain exposure to ramp features, or just to spectate and take in show!
This years event will also offer opportunities for kids and adults to try their hand at rollerskiing in a Learn to Ski clinics. If that’s not enough — Black has Live Music, Food, Frisbee Toss and Corn Hole competitions slated for the day. Bring your lawn chairs for outside seating — the whole course can be viewed from the spectator area.
REGISTRATION OPENS September 15th
There will be ample time throughout the day and after the event for skiers who aren’t competing to try ramps and agility — please check in at the NENSA tent on arrival to fill out a waiver and get some safety info. All are welcome.

(Course Map) The course will be set on a 400 meter loop with signature Bicycle and Speed Whoop ramps along with the crowd pleasing Step Down Jump. Other agility components include figure 8’s, one-legged balance, grass skiing, and turning features including a slalom. Skiers should be prepared for a course under 2 minutes in length with sections of open skiing including a finish straight.
All skiers will participate in course instruction and two qualifications and use their “Best 1 of 2” time to advance into the rounds. The top-16 Open and top-8 Junior skiers will advance to single elimination rounds – advancing by winning their “heat” (Final Heat numbers and structure will be published based on registration numbers with the goal of allowing for more “rounds” skiing). This year will feature head-to-head racing with competitors starting at a common start line. Overall results will rank based on round advancement.
