Caribou Bog Classic Ski Race (Club, Zak & Marathon)

February 3

The Caribou Bog Classic Ski Race will take place on February 3, 2024. This race is part of the Part of the NENSA Marathon Series and scored to NENSA Zak Cup and Club Cup. The race is hosted by the Penobscot Valley Ski Club Utilizing the new Caribou Bog Outdoor Center as the race venue that has handicap access, restroom facilities and wax room facilities. The Great Caribou Classic Ski Race has been taking place since the mid 1980s. The race utilizes a 10km loop trough the actual bog and an additional 11.5km loop through more hilly terrain. In addition to the 33km distance, there will also be 21km, and 10km distances available.

The availability of the new Outdoor Center and trail improvements allows the addition of ParaNordic classes to the race for 2024. A 4km distance option is available for the  ParaNordic classes. The following ParaNordic classes will be available;

Detailed classification definitions for each ParaNordic category offered in the race can be found at ParaNordic Skiing – Classification Rules & Regulations (paralympic.org).  For classification assistance or further information, please contact BethAnn Chamberlain at [email protected].

Prizes will be awarded to the top 2 male and female finishers in each age  category/class for each race distance. The 33km distance qualifies M1-M6 age classes for the NENSA Marathon Series points and the 21km distance qualifies M7 and above age classes for the NENSA Marathon Series points. In addition to be part of the NENSA Marathon Series this race continues to be a citizen race encouraging all ages and skiers abilities to participate.

Online registration will be open through midnight Feb. 1st, 2024. Day of race registration will be available from 7:30 – 9:00 AM only. The race is a mass start that starts at 10:00 AM. Depending on the number of participants there may be wave starts 1 or 2 minutes apart. The Para Nordic 4km distance start will be a separate start shortly after the 10km, 21km, and 33km start. An awards ceremony will take place at  approximately 1:00 PM.
