NWVT BKL Mini-Fest: Sleepy Hollow, March 6

We look forward to welcoming and hosting friends from the Northwest Vermont BKL District on the beautiful trails at Sleepy Hollow! The theme for the weekend is State by State United We Ski! While we cannot all gather at one festival, we can still celebrate skiing at home in our own state. We can focus on what makes Vermont unique while celebrating a shared love of skiing that knows no border.

REGISTRATION HERE!!!

COVID Requirements: This event is open to Vermont residents ONLY who are part of the Northwest Vermont BKL District. Our primary goal is the safety and well being of our community and all our event participants. We require that everyone follow NENSA’s COVID Guidelines as well as all Vermont State COVID Requirements which includes but is not limited to mask wearing (when not racing) and physical distancing from non-household members. As per VT state guidelines, there is no race spectating allowed! We realize that the youngest skiers need help but aside from that, we ask that all parents and caretakers stay away from the race course. There will be no indoor space available for event attendees.

Health Screening: All attendees must fill out a Pre–Event Health Screen by 5pm on Thursday March 4th or they will not be allowed at the event.  NENSA will distribute the Pre-Event Health Screen as soon as registration closes on March 3rd. All attendees will also be required to fill out the CDC Facilities Health Screen the day of the event and show proof of completion upon arrival at the venue.

Registration Notes: The first 110 registrants will receive Concept 2 Ski Ties! All parents/caretakers who plan to partake in the Mini-Marathon must also register (for free).

NENSA Membership: A full NENSA membership or a day membership is required to race. The day membership cost ($10) is factored into the Non NENSA Member race entry. If you have NEVER been a member of NENSA, you can sign up for a free GET SKIING membership prior to registering for this event. Direct all membership questions to [email protected].

Refund Policy: If you do not pass our health screen, or if we must cancel the event, you will be fully refunded (except for the small SkiReg fee).

Race Notes: Individual start freestyle races with some optional bump and jump features as part of the race course. The Non-Competitive Race Category is for skiers Grades 2-8 who might be new to racing or who want a less competitive race option. It will not be timed (no results) but skiers will wear a bib and ski the 2k race course. See race course map below.

Mini-Marathon Notes: There will be multiple marathon length options with pre-packaged snacks and a possible Scavenger Hunt along the way. The Mini-Marathon is included with all race entry categories and runs all day.

Schedule:

9:00am: Lollipop Event – 500m
9:15am: Grades 1/2 – 1km
10:00am: Grades 3/4 – 2km
11:00am: Grades 5/6 – 3km
12:00am: Grades 7/8 – 4km
1:00pm: Non-Competitive Race – 2km
Open all day: Mini-Marathon

8th Grade Graduation: Graduation Certificates and a special treat will be presented to each 8th Grade Graduate.

Awards/Prizes: All skiers will get a participatory award and there will also be an event raffle (items will be distributed at bib pick-up).

We were thrilled to have Old Town Elementary schoo We were thrilled to have Old Town Elementary school join our Nordic Rocks program this year thanks to funding from the @killingtonworldcupfoundation and the @sharewinterfoundation. We’re also grateful to Old Town’s PE teacher and community volunteers for spearheading the program on the ground. Old Town Elementary is located right on the University of Maine at Orono ski trails and near the Penobscot Valley Ski Club so students in the Nordic Rocks program have next step opportunities to ski outside of school right in their own community. Below are a few thoughts from Old Town Elementary School students after their first ski session:

❄️ “My joy today was trying skiing and my goal is to try skiing hills next time.”

❄️ “I want to be a world champion skier!”
