I chose art as my option for the NENSA/Roy-llerski event because of my passion for the art of Farming; changing the way we look at farming in a way that is appealing to the next generation. I have always reminded my kids that nothing makes you stronger than the work that you do while working. Bales of hay are like free weights, chasing cows is like doing sprints, climbing up a trailer is like doing pull-ups; muscles that are built-in and not added on making for stronger individuals (quote by Gregg Varney from his college days)
My sheep and angora goats are located at the MOWC/North Farm site and, at the end of each day, I feed, and manage their grazing pastures with my newest addition, Minerva. A great Pyrenees cross sheep guard dog puppy. She and I walk the length of each pasture piece to bring in the sheep. I have attached my best rendition of my freelance walking and spelling, Roy, on my walk through the pastures.
The solid red is my back and forth walking in the barns doing all the other chores; I am sure we can call that art as well.
The week before Roys’s passing, he and I sat on the porch and listened to the song Butterfly by Willy Nelson. I had never heard the song before, and after its completion, we both mentioned what a nice song it was.
A few weeks after Roys’s passing, butterflies filled the fields and farm where Gregg and I worked and continued to randomly show up throughout any given day.
There hasn’t been a day this summer when I bring in the sheep at the end of the day that I am not joined by some form of a butterfly and know that our boy is out there watching over all of us. Pushing, pulling, laughing, being loud, having fun.
ROY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you to all he has inspired and may his energy and spirit continue to inspire us all.
