Singletrack Shootout Biathlon Race
October 5, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Everyone is invited to test their limits on the Craftsbury Outdoor Center’s biathlon range and trails with the 8th annual Singletrack Shootout Biathlon Race, Saturday, October 5, 2019, part of our annual Fall Fest celebration. We hope to be holding this race on our new biathlon range located in the upper field. If construction goes as planned, we’ll have access to the many additional singletrack options located in very close proximity to the Center. The range is scheduled to be completed just in time for the event, but we will keep participants updated with any changes to our exact range location if need be! This year’s race will have running and mountain bike options, as well as a short kids race with both biking and running.
New this year, we hope to have kids and running races in the morning and (adult) biking in the afternoon. This race is open to all regardless of biathlon ability, with a safety and beginners clinic offered twice throughout the day. The Craftsbury Outdoor Center supplies the range, ammo, rifles, and other equipment – you just have to show up with your running shoes or bike! In order to gauge interest and solidify the best race day plan, we need people to register early. As a thank you for pre-registering, we’ll offer you a free lunch in our dining hall.
The morning starts with a shooting and safety clinic for novices. Then at 10:00am, the kids run/bike races will go off, followed by the runners. Both adult and kids races have 2 rounds of shooting. In the afternoon, there will be another shooting and safety clinic, followed by the adult bike races start at 1:45pm. Those with their own rifles can enter in the “expert” category for either biking or running, and will shoot prone and standing. Expert racers will start in their own wave immediately before the novice wave, and can zero during the safety clinic. As is the case with summer biathlon, all racers will rack their rifles when they leave the range – i.e. no running or biking with a gun on your back!
