2023 National U16 Camp

July 30, 2023 - August 6, 2023

The National U16 Camp will be held at Paul Smith’s College just outside of Lake Placid, New York from July 31 to Aug 6, 2023.

Paul Smith – NYSEF  [email protected] and Greta Anderson – U.S. Ski & Snowboard  [email protected]  will develop the formal camp invitations, registration materials and camp costs with the payment process so look for those shortly.

There will likely be a May 1st acceptance or decline deadline for invited participants so please be sure to highlight that to your athletes ands ask them to confirm promptly. Confirms and declines will be sent to Paul Smith [email protected]

THIS LIST shows the top twenty auto qualifiers for each gender U16 camp scoring:

CLARIFICATION for SELECTIONS BEYOND the AUTO TWENTY FOR EACH GENDER:

  1. If there is a decline WE DO NOT then slide down the ranking list for the next available skier. This has been the policy for all previous NU16 Camps. The rationale is that if we were to do this, we will likely have skiers who attending who are not quite ready for this level of camp. Additionally, this would assuredly result in a camp size of 60 athletes which is too large to manage effectively. Given that we will also be adding Discretionary Selections of One Boy and One Girl from each division, we have generally been able to end up with a camp size of 50ish total skiers, given that we always have a few declines from each gender.
  2. EACH DIVISION is afforded the opportunity to also nominate one U16 Boy and one U16 Girl to attend as their discretionary selections. It is up to each division to determine for themselves how they will select these 2 additional skiers. Some divisions utilize the selection list and designate their highest unselected skier as their discretionary pick, but again it is up to each division to run that process.  Divisional Coordinators, Please submit your divisional discretionary picks asap to Paul Smith [email protected] and also please notify the skiers and their parents that they have been selected and will need to confirm (or decline) and then complete camp registration materials.
  3. Each REGION; Alaska, Pacific, Mountain, Central and the East are asked to provide a coach in support of the camp. The NatU16 Camp will cover these coaches airfare and lodging. It is also typical that the host region (in this case the East) may provide an additional 1 or 2 coaches in support of the camp.

All staff must have an active USSS coach license. Given that this camp is not long after the July 1 renewal, it is critical that coaches have all SafeSport requirements completed BEFORE the camp.

TRAVEL:  We will be asking all attendees who are flying in to arrive in Albany, NY by 6pm Monday July 31st. More details on shuttles, etc.  As you can understand, we need to have athletes coordinate their travel so that we can effectively manage shuttles for this number of athletes.  For departure on Aug 6th, we ask for no departure times before 8am from Albany, NY

Congratulations to all the selected skiers and their programs. Well Done!!
