2022 Craftsbury BKL Summer Day Camp

June 20, 2022 @ 9:00 am – June 24, 2022 @ 2:00 pm

Camp Dates:

June 20 – 24, 2022

9:00am – 2:00pm

Registration opens April 15, 2022 at 7:00pm HERE

Craftsbury program participants may access early registration April 11, 2022 at 7:00pm. Until then, all options may not appear or may appear as “sold out.”

Although there will be some small changes to keep in line with COVID-related guidelines and best practices, many parts of camp will be the same. BKL Camp will end slightly earlier each day than in years past (at 2:00pm instead of 3:00pm). Camp is coached by Craftsbury’s year-round ski coaching staff and by members of the Craftsbury Green Racing Project as well. The skiers will work hard and play even harder! There will be lots of fun games, a variety of ski workouts, tons of opportunities to learn or improve skills like roller skiing, shooting with a real biathlon rifle, and canoeing, all capped by the traditional adventure race. Don’t miss it!

Craftsbury Outdoor Center membership is required for kids to participate in our summer BKL camp. Membership, which is available at the individual or family level, provides a host of benefits, including year-round trail use and access to great opportunities like speakers, naturalist hikes, and cider pressing. Membership is also a prerequisite for registration in our regular summer dryland and winter skiing programs. Interested in joining the Craftsbury ski club as a regular part of one of our teams? Learn more about our summer training programs here.

Sample Day of Craftsbury BKL Camp

  • 9:00am – Morning Activity – We start the day with a warm-up activity to get us moving.
  • 10:00am – Morning workout – Once warmed up, we move on to more ski related activities like rollerskiing, orienteering, running, hill bounding and more.
  • 11:30am – Lunch (pack your own)
  • 12:00pm – Quiet activity – We learn from videos, play low-key games or other less active pursuits. It’s a bit of a break to digest, recover and get ready for the afternoon.
  • 12:30pm – Afternoon workout – We close the day with another higher energy session. We canoe, swim, try biathlon, mountain bike, or learn to scull.
  • 2:00pm – Parent pickup – Before you know it, it’s time to go home! Rest up because tomorrow will be another full day!

Don’t hesitate to contact our coaching staff with any questions: [email protected] See you this summer!

Registration and Details

BKL camp is $200 per kid and includes a camp t-shirt. Don’t forget your membership if you don’t already have one! Participation is limited to 30. Registration opens on April 15, 2022 at 7:00pm, with pre-registration access granted to Craftsbury program participants.

BKL Camp FAQs

Please read through these FAQs before contacting our coaching staff:

Will we have to wear masks? Are there other COVID-related rules?

Masks are currently optional indoors and outdoors at the Outdoor Center, but our COVID policy may change with changing circumstances. We’ll send out more details on this front closer to the start of camp. We will expect all campers to fully comply with all COVID-related rules.

Vaccination is encouraged but not required to participate in BKL camp.

School is still in session for us on those dates. Will you be offering another BKL Camp?

Nope. Our one and only BKL camp this summer will take place on June 20-24, 2022. We understand that some schools outside Vermont may still be in session. We encourage you to check back next summer!

What is the age requirement for BKL camp?

BKL day campers must be 8 years old at the start of camp. The upper age limit is 13, but some 13-year-olds find they’re starting to feel a bit old for BKL camp. The majority of campers are usually in the 9-12-year-old range.

We’re Craftsbury members. Do we get a discount?

No. Craftsbury membership is REQUIRED to participate in any of our camps. It’s in many ways our equivalent of a year-round trail pass. You can learn how to become a member here.

Do we have to do your regular BKL programs to do camps?

No.

When are you going to offer overnight camps for BKL?

We’re not currently planning to do so.

Do I need my own rollerskis for BKL camp?

Nope! We have rollerski equipment available to borrow.

What about a mountain bike? Do I need that?

Yes. We will not have bikes available for loan or rent this summer. If you do not have a bike, you will be given an alternate activity during the bike time. Not having a bike shouldn’t keep you from registering, but please know that we will not be able to provide you with one.

Do I need to pack a lunch?

Yes. Lunch is not included—all campers should bring a bag lunch each day.

Who coaches BKL camp?

BKL camp is run by our junior coaching staff, with help from members of the Craftsbury GRP and occasionally special guests. All of our regular junior coaches are fully vaccinated and certified NENSA and US Ski & Snowboard coaches.

Sharing some photos of XC Ski Bingo players out ex Sharing some photos of XC Ski Bingo players out exploring, adventuring, and trying new things on their skis! The Telstar Middle School team is doing Bingo together as a team and came up with a new activity where they linked arms in groups of 4 and skied down a hill completing a big turn at the bottom! Maybe we'll have to add that to next year's Bingo card... And check out that exciting backyard jump!

If you haven't already, you can print your own Bingo card and get playing! For more details and card downloads click see the link in bio. Also, if you've completed Bingo, remember to upload your card (also at the link in bio) before February 1st if you'd like to be included in our next raffle!
