December Ski Bingo Raffle Winner Highlight

Mackenzie Rizio · January 7, 2026 ·

December Ski Bingo Raffle Winner Announced: Isla Explores Three States on Skis

Isla has been named the December Ski Bingo raffle winner after an action-packed month on skis that captured the adventurous spirit of the program. Throughout December, Isla skied in three New England states: Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts—while completing a wide range of Ski Bingo activities.

Beyond logging miles across state lines, Isla embraced the playful and creative challenges that make Ski Bingo so engaging. Her completed squares included watching the Tour de Ski, playing a game on skis, hosting a gliding contest, skiing backwards, and even identifying an animal track, highlighting both her curiosity and joy for being outside on snow.

Reflecting on her experience, Isla shared, “I love skiing with friends and my family! And watching the Tour de Ski.”

Ski Bingo is designed to encourage skiers of all ages to get outside, try new activities, and find fun and adventure on skis throughout the winter months. The program runs monthly through the end of March, with raffle prizes awarded each month.

Participants are encouraged to grab a Bingo card, head outside, and start checking off squares—because the next Ski Bingo winner could be you.

BKL Games Highlight: Maine West’s Squirrels and Nuts Relay

Mackenzie Rizio · December 22, 2025 ·

NENSA is excited to launch a new series highlighting our fantastic BKL clubs – and their favorite games. We will be highlighting clubs and including any instructions and materials required to try them out yourself – have fun out there, and please see below for the survey link to submit your own game!

Materials: Nuts (Maine West likes hershey’s kisses), Squirrels (the kids), and nests (hoola hoop, rope, cones, buckets, etc)

Skill: No-pole skating (or skiing!)

How to Play: This relay works best with 3-4 kids on a relay team. It can be done classic or skate (no poles in either case) but is a great skate activity. Each team has a ‘nest’. The coach scatter the ‘nuts’ (hershey’s kisses) along a rough line in the snow about 30-50 meters from the ‘nests’. The first skiers in each relay team start together and race to the ‘nuts’, each skier picks up ONE ‘nut’, and brings it back to their ‘nest’ (put it in the hoolahoop, the bucket, inside the nest marked with rope, etc) and tag the next skier on their team who then skis as fast as they can to the ‘nuts’, picks up ONE, and brings it back to put in the nest. Continue until all the ‘nuts’ have been gathered. Each team counts their ‘nuts’ and eats them. Depending on the number of skiers and the number of ‘nuts’, you may want to save some ‘nuts’ in case a team doesn’t have enough for each skier to enjoy one after the game.

Does your club have a unique or all-time favorite game you return to year after year? We want to hear about it!

Please share one game from your club, along with the age group it works best for (or if it works for all ages). If you have a picture or short video, we would love to include that as well. Help us highlight your club and its favorite game in our winter programming!

SMS Camp Visit 2025!

Mackenzie Rizio · August 12, 2025 ·

Last week, NENSA joined the Stratton Mountain School (SMS) Bill Koch League and Junior Camps for a full day of agility, speed, and learning. The morning kicked off with an agility course set up in a nearby parking lot for the BKL campers. Alongside navigating ramps, slalom turns, and tricky transitions, campers also got a presentation on why cross-country skiing in New England is so awesome. We also talked about the importance of teamwork, NENSA’s programs beyond the Bill Koch League, and what goes in to running ski events (hint: lots and lots of our fantastic volunteers!)

In the afternoon, Junior Campers arrived on campus and jumped right into the action. The morning’s agility set-up proved perfect for them too, after skiing up from the main SMS campus, they warmed up with a few short bursts of speed before tackling the features. Timed runs encouraged skiers to find ways to improve, balancing quickness with strategy. As they quickly discovered, going fast over an entire course sometimes means knowing when to ease off and match your power to the terrain.

While NENSA coordinated the timed runs, SMS coaches Alex Jospe and Matt Boobar led focused skate drills with small groups. Between the skill work, strategy, and laughter, the day was a great reminder that agility training builds more than just speed — it builds confidence, creativity, and joy on skis.
