BKL Festival FAQs

The New England Bill Koch Youth Ski League (NEBKYSL) Festival is the marquee event of the New England Nordic Ski Association Bill Koch Youth Ski League.  This league has the mission to introduce young people to the sport of cross country skiing with its social, fitness and competitive opportunities. Local BKL Clubs provide programming for boys and girls in eighth grade and younger, often relying on and including parental participation.

Once a year, individuals and Clubs from all over New England and New York come together at the annual Festival for a weekend of activities centering upon cross country skiing.  The site is determined by a bid process, and rotates through the states of Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine.

Past NEBKL Festival host sites:
2018 Eastern Mass BKL at the Weston Ski Track
2017 Bethel Outing Club in Bethel, Maine
2016 Great Glen BKL Club, Great Glen Outdoor Center, Gorham, NH
2015 Mountain Top BKL Club, Mountain Top Inn & Resort, Chittenden, VT

We were thrilled to have Old Town Elementary schoo We were thrilled to have Old Town Elementary school join our Nordic Rocks program this year thanks to funding from the @killingtonworldcupfoundation and the @sharewinterfoundation. We’re also grateful to Old Town’s PE teacher and community volunteers for spearheading the program on the ground. Old Town Elementary is located right on the University of Maine at Orono ski trails and near the Penobscot Valley Ski Club so students in the Nordic Rocks program have next step opportunities to ski outside of school right in their own community. Below are a few thoughts from Old Town Elementary School students after their first ski session:

❄️ “My joy today was trying skiing and my goal is to try skiing hills next time.”

❄️ “I want to be a world champion skier!”
