Plan 1 – Event takes place at Quarry Road Trails following all Covid guidelines and NECCP. All attendees must complete an Event Health Screen form on Wednesday night prior to the event including a temperature check. Upon arrival at the venue, event attendees must pass a verbal health screening before unloading from their vehicle. Please note spectators will be limited, there could be limited coach access to courses, there will be no indoor spaces provided by the venue, wax areas will be monitored for physical distance, and bathrooms will be assigned by state. Volunteer and event staff will be reduced in number. There will be no NENSA sanctioned mass start or sprint competitions this season. We respectively ask that all persons at the venue wear a face covering over their mouth and nose at all times. Athletes/coaches must cover their nose and mouth in the start and finish areas, and if they are within 6 ft of another individual on course.
Goody bags and bibs will be distributed in a no-contact manner. Results will only be published online, there will be no physical award or graduation ceremonies (ribbons and certificates will be mailed or distributed to team leaders in a no-contact manner), and all bibs will be paper.
Possible alternate formats to decrease contact: Alternate race formats may include more time between starters and age categories, and alternate relay formats to eliminate crowding and contact in the tag zone. Other format changes may include no parade, a physically distanced or take-out banquet, and no-contact non-race activities. Please note that we will not limit the number of people who can attend the BKL Festival and will instead move to the next plan on our list if gathering size is an issue.
Plan 2 – Regional BKL Festival. In the event of limited between-state travel and gathering size, NENSA will work with each state or region to host a mini-BKL Festival that fits safely within their state or region’s COVID guidelines. Goody bags and graduation certificates will be mailed to District Chairs for distribution.
Plan 3 – Virtual BKL Festival. If COVID guidelines do not safely permit gatherings in every state, the BKL Festival will go virtual. Please note that some states may be able to gather while others may not so a hybrid option using Plans 2 and 3 may be employed. The virtual event will include a welcome video and a list of fun activity options to complete such as build an agility course, create a snow sculpture or shelter, see how far you can ski in a set amount of time, see how far you can ski backwards in a set amount of time, invent a game to play on skis and play that game, and send a photo of you in your parade costume. NENSA will send BKL Festival Journals (so participants can record which activities they complete), goody bags, participation ribbons, and graduation certificates to District Chairs or BKL Club Leaders. NENSA will also create a virtual parade webpage with all the costume photos. Virtual activities subject to change as we come up with new fun ideas.
