Para Skiing Resources and Events Page

Isabel Caldwell · December 30, 2024 ·

As we round the corner into a New Year, we want to take a moment to remind you that you can find up to date information about Para Skiing and Para events in New England at this page. NENSA is excited to announce that for the second year in a row Eastern High School Championships will also serve as a National Para Junior Invite. Additionally, in an effort to continue expanding Para opportunities in the region, this year we will be having a Para component at the BKL Festival.

A big thank you to the staff of U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing for been very helpful compiling resources and creating opportunities. We want to encourage anyone with a Para athlete in their life to reach out to our regional and/or national partners for opportunities to become involved or to better support this amazing group of skiers!

Youth Community Day Recap

Isabel Caldwell · November 13, 2024 ·

On Saturday morning, while driving to Stratton, I drove by Jessie Diggins doing her final interval workout before flying to Europe to begin her World Cup season. Many of the athletes driving to the Youth Community Day also got an early morning glimpse of Jessie – it was a motivating way to start the morning!

Our first ever Youth Community felt like a huge success. We had athletes in attendance from across the Southern and Central Vermont regions and cold weather was a perfect way to get excited for winter. After a beautiful hike up to Mid Mountain Lodge, we hiked back down to the school for lunch and a presentation on the opportunities that youth skiers have after graduating from BKL. The afternoon was spent in the air awareness center and on roller skis. It was the first time on roller skis for a third of the athletes in attendance, which was cause for celebration at the end of the day.

This event felt really meaningful and we at NENSA would love to hold more events like this in the future. The middle school audience is a particular age group that we like to engage with because it is a time of such change for young people and we’d like to encourage as many people as possible to stay in the sport of nordic skiing.

Please join us this Saturday, November 9th at the Stratton Mountain School for NENSA’s Youth Community Day. The goal of this event is to connect young skiers from across the region and get them excited for the opportunities NENSA provides after BKL. Come join us for a fun day packed full of events! We will begin with a group hike up the mountain, followed by lunch and a NENSA programming presentation with Isabel and Ben. Then athletes will spend time honing their athletic skills in the SMS Air Awareness Center and on their skate roller skis in an agility course (NENSA will provide roller skis).
