NENSA is excited to share Southern Vermont District’s 2027 L.L.Bean Bill Koch Festival Logo with you all! Every year, the BKL Festival has a new theme and a new logo. While they may first appear to be simply fun graphics or a creative way to name the event, they play a much bigger role in shaping the Festival experience.
The BKL Festival is more than a ski race. It is a celebration of young skiers, their families, their clubs, and the Nordic community that brings them together. Each year’s theme gives the weekend its own personality and creates a sense of anticipation, imagination, and fun.
For young skiers, the theme helps turn the Festival into an adventure. It might inspire parade costumes, games, or a new way to experience the snow. It gives kids something to look forward to, while creating opportunities for them to see skiing as a place for play, exploration, and creativity.
The theme also gives each host community an opportunity to make the Festival its own. While the heart of BKL remains the same each year, the host club can interpret the theme in ways that reflect its community and its trails. The result is a Festival that feels distinctly different from year to year while remaining connected to the larger BKL tradition.
The logo carries that experience beyond the Festival weekend. It appears on shirts, stickers, signage, social media, and other keepsakes, becoming a visual reminder of a particular winter and a particular Festival. For young skiers, these small details can become meaningful memories of the years they spent skiing with their friends.
Most importantly, the annual theme helps communicate what BKL is all about. BKL is not solely about how fast a child can ski or where they finish. It is about creating joyful experiences, building community, learning new skills, challenging themselves, and helping kids develop a lifelong love of being outside and moving on snow.
The theme gives us a chance to celebrate those values in a way that feels fresh and exciting each year. It is one small part of what makes the BKL Festival feel like a true celebration: a weekend where young skiers come together to have fun, make memories, and celebrate skiing better together.
We’ll continue to share Festival updates here in Breaking News, through our Trail Tales youth newsletter, and on social media (Facebook and Instagram). You can also keep tabs on the Festival website HERE.
Without further ado, the 2027 Bill Koch Festival Theme to celebrate the Bill Koch League’s Golden Anniversary is: Skiing Through the Eras.

50 years of Bill Koch League is a big moment to celebrate.
We are all inspired by our heroes, be they great skiers from the pages of history, our parent, our coach, or the music you put on when your legs give out and you just need to make it back to the lodge. As we reflect on 5 decades collectively in pursuit of this awesome sport, find the heroes who energize your stride. Hosted by Prospect Mountain, still happily sporting a lodge straight out of the 1950’s, this festival will be a blast from the past. Extra points for hot pink, teal and yellow race suits, wind breakers, wooden skis, 3-pin bindings, knickers, vintage polyester suits, wool hats, big hair, or whatever inspires you from the past 5 decades (more or less).
One of the most amazing things about the Bill Koch League over the past 50 years is that it has retained and strengthened Bill’s vision of “having fun and your best is good enough [… and to] take the emphasis off of winning”. Over 50 years of BKL, thousands of kids have learned to ski in New England, and collectively they have skied millions of kilometers, far enough to ski to the moon and back, probably multiple times. However the most important measurement of success is the amount of fun that these kids have had, and the community we all have built enjoying being outside in the winter. While that is harder to quantify, we will see a snapshot of it at this year’s festival, as we do every year.
