NENSA is pleased to share that our Annual Fall Event Organizer & TD Seminar will be hosted by the Prospect Outdoor Center on the weekend of October 17 & 18. Located in Woodford, VT, just up the hill from Bennington which has many options for lodging. This year’s seminar will run from 10:30am on Saturday to ~12:30pm on Sunday to accommodate participants making longer drives.
This seminar is designed to support and strengthen event hosting across all levels of our sport. All organizing committee members, coaches, and interested community members are warmly invited and encouraged to attend.
Each year we strive to add more meaningful subject matter and activities to the seminar. Highlights include group work designed to build knowledge and strengthen race jury cohesion, as well as demonstrations and discussions of best practices for a variety of race-day volunteer roles.
We are especially excited to welcome UVM Professor Kimberly Coleman and her research team to this year’s program. Saturday’s program will include a presentation and interactive workshop exploring how changing winters are affecting Nordic skiing from the experiences of skiers and race communities to snow science, data collection, and the ways Nordic centers are adapting. Participants will also have opportunities to share their perspectives and help shape research and tools designed to support the future of the sport.
Clubs and venues hosting an Eastern Cup, Bill Koch Festival, U16 Championships, or Eastern High School Championships are required to send their Chief of Competition and one additional representative (ideally the Race Secretary) to learn the most up-to-date procedures and practices and help make these events the best they can be.
Community Event hosts are also encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen their event operations, exchange ideas with other organizers, and learn practices that can enhance the experience for athletes, coaches, volunteers, and spectators alike. Coaches are also encouraged to participate to learn about the latest changes affecting them and their athletes, while building stronger relationships with event organizers and Technical Delegates (TDs).
