Slow Shifts, Big Pushes: NENSA Camps, Lost Nation Roll, Start New England Skiing’s Year off on Collaborative Note

Slow Shifts, Big Pushes: NENSA Development Camps Starts New England Skiing’s Year off on Collaborative Note

As REG camp went hit the roads, so did the hay.

Out on East Warren Rd., skiers from across New England were looking to add a little metaphoric “hay in the barn,” but during a first dry stretch of June, the farmers of Vermont were looking for something more literal along those lines.

The result: a busy classic technique workout, filled with progressions and new collaborations, in this case accompanied with whiffs of hay, dust, and manure – fresh Vermont country air.

Sileage operations aren’t necessarily part of NENSA’s mission. There is a weird similarity to the dynamic though, in the big block of developmental camps which kick off the summer in New England skiing. All Spring, the mood is slow. The snow gradually recedes into the high valleys. The buds creep onto the trees. Then, in one big push, everyone across our community is together again.

Visiting the neighbors at REG Camp in Waitsfield, Vermont.

On this go around of NENSA’s REG and RDG camps, some 60-ish skiers and 15 coaches gathered at Green Mountain Valley School (REG) and Craftsbury Outdoor Center (RDG) to take to the project of building towards the winter together. Interspersed in there, Craftsbury’s Lost Nation Roll also gathered a sizable chunk of the U23 and Pro skiers programs in the region, with another 95 skiers mixed in. The net sum, one big push to re-instate our values as a collaborative ski community out among the hills of Vermont.

NENSA’s thanks to our large, capricious community for all pitching in to make the start of the year so successful. In particular, thanks to Brandon Herhusky and Mikaela Paluszek at Green Mountain Valley School for their work in hosting REG, USSS Development Staff Bryan Fish and Lizzie Larkins, and to our pro athletes, Ben Ogden, Julia Kern, and Jack Young for sharing their learned experiences and reflections with the next generation throughout these camps!
