At the conclusion of each season, NENSA names an Elite and Development Team which seeks to recognize the skiers who have represented the New England ski community nationally and internationally, and contributed to the ongoing work of pushing each other here, to we can push together around the world. Today, we are proud to name and recognize the 2026 NENSA Elite Team and NENSA Development Team. The 30th anniversary season for NENSA’s competitive programming season marked a key milestone for New England skiers. Standing on its own, three decades of competitive programming under the NENSA banner is an achievement.
In February though, the animating principle from John Caldwell and the other founders which that banner was raised under – that if our community mobilized and organized, we could develop Olympic medalists again here in New England – was achieved by Ben Ogden (twice!). The particular skier to have achieved this, dedicated and passionate on his own, but also so present and prescient to all the other factors which go into creating a pathway for success, seemed to even more undergird our competitive project. In taking stock now, we know that the core program we have constructed works. One doesn’t just plant the seeds and hope they’ll grow though. Much of our work this season, and in the future, will be in reading the signs of a shifting ecosystem, adapting our practices, and actively cultivating the acreage of our community so that where Ben, and the next Ben’s to come, go, they’ll go out as NENSA skiers. A distinct path, steeped in community, a consistent study of the sport alongside one’s peers, and overall competitiveness.
Represented in NENSA’s Elite and Devo teams is a power greater than the sum of its pieces.
There is a distinct beauty in practicing the sport in New England, a region built on distinct and stark identities – Vermonter, Mainer, Bostonian, Berkshire-ite, and more – yet recognizable as a wholly single thing. There is something wonderful about the thought you can have each summer that if you step foot on the Long Trail, or Appalachian trail, or Presidential traverse, you just may not be the only one preparing for next winter there, despite being separated by hundreds of miles. New England skiers, likewise, come to the sport with stark identities, combined into something greater. From Eastern Cups, to Carnivals, SuperTours, World Cups, and the Olympics, to come from here is to be culled from the experience of being here, skiing better, together.
Congratulations to these skiers on their seasons, and here’s to a summer of striding towards the future together!

U23 NENSA Training/Racing Data Survey
A QUICK ASK:
NENSA and USSS has collected simple training data from REG athletes year-over-year which amounts to a dataset that points towards how athlete development has changed over time.
NENSA is looking to broaden this survey to a key cohort of athletes who are engaging with regional programs in New England with our Elite and Devo TEam members. By providing this data, you will help add to a dataset which will allow regional coaches to track and plan the future of skiing in the region, and inject our practices with new ideas for us to ski better, together.
