NENSA and Skida Headwear proudly recognize the 2018-2019 Elite and Development teams as we enter into this winter’s race season. The athletes named to these teams were leaders for their clubs and teams in Eastern Cup, Junior National, NCAA, U23/World Junior Championship, World Cup and Olympic competitions last winter. The size of each years team is a sign of strength of our region as skiers need to reach a certain level of national and international success to qualify. This year we honor a record number of athletes with 39 Development and 36 Elite team members.
The program aims to support and facilitate development of top athletes toward the goal of international excellence. In addition to recognition for accomplishments, this program provides incentives for athletes to seek high levels of competition, and to encourage athletes to think in terms of long-range development. Information on qualifying criteria and team benefits can be accessed here: Development / Elite.
In the summer of 2018 NENSA created a series of roller ski competitions which added to camp opportunities, as a way to get our top athletes together more often. Elite athletes were offered free entry in these events to bolster the competition field and offer inspiration to our entire New England skiing community. Many of our Elite and Development athletes took advantage of these opportunities and strengthened the bond of these exceptional skiers across age groups.
Skida has supported this program since 2010 with fashionable and sought after headbands. Skida was founded by Vermont cross country skier, Corinne Prevot, while she was competing for Burke Mountain Academy and Middlebury College. Her attractive designs and innovative business have developed her company into an industry leader and we are so proud to pair her companies success with our athletes.
Congratulations to all — we look forward to seeing what you accomplish this winter!
