The Maine Event: Agility Sprint Festival on October 27 at Pineland Farms

October 10, 2018 by Kait Miller 1 Comment

On Saturday morning October 27, NENSA will be hosting the first open Rollerski Cross Country Cross event in the world.  This exciting dryland version of Cross Country Cross builds on aspects of both sprinting and agility. The event will take place at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine.

The Maine Event: Agility Sprint Festival builds on the success of our Celebrity Duel at the 2018 National U16 camp, held in June in Lake Placid, NY. That camp saw the best under 16 skiers in the country trying their hand at rollers, jumps, spins, and slalom turns all while competing for the fastest time alongside four time Olympian Andy Newell and Ludvig Sognen Jensen, the fastest skier in the world. As NENSA moves forward with this exciting new discipline of skiing, we will be offering the opportunity to compete on this course to all comers on October 27.

Races will be broken up by gender and age with Junior Women and Men starting out in the morning, followed by Open Women and Men later in the day. Skiers will compete on a matched fleet of Swenor skate rollerskis. This uniform equipment will help to even the playing field and create a competition based solely on athletic performance.

Throughout the summer and now into the fall NENSA has been greatly expanding the scope of our programming to offer year round opportunities for what is a traditionally winter sport. The NENSA Bag Balm Rollerski Race Series launched in August with the App Gap Challenge, followed by Lake Placid Doubleday and Climb to the Castle in September. The series continues with the NENSA Rossignol Fall Classic on October 13 and Trapp Invitational on November 3.

Because of the success of these events, we have been able to look beyond the traditional race format to create the Maine Event Agility Sprint Festival. This cutting edge event will test skiers on both speed and skill, and will be a fantastic introduction to the discipline of Cross Country Cross which is growing worldwide.
