SafeSport Webinar Offered through US Ski & Snowboard

September 12, 2017 by Amie Smith Leave a Comment

NENSA Clubs and Coaches ~

The U.S. Center for SafeSport is hosting a two-part webinar series for sport administrators featuring expert training from Michelle Peterson, a nationally renowned child-abuse consultant, investigator and researcher.  These Webinar’s are free, and the dates are listed below.  There are two sessions being offered.

Among other issues, Michelle will address the sport administrator’s role in championing athlete well-being by providing facts and best practices related to:
– Forms of misconduct
– Risk factors and statistics
– Behaviors to look for
– Reporting and responsiveness
– Implementing SafeSport programs locally
– Engaging constituents (including athletes and coaches)

Webinars will be held in two parts, each lasting 90 minutes. Please find specific dates and times along with registration links below. Please note all times are listed in Mountain Time. To accommodate as many attendees as possible, we will be offering each two-part series twice. These series will cover the same information, and participants should choose which sessions best fit their schedules. For those who cannot attend live, the Center will record the trainings and will circulate playback links in late October.

To help us ensure we are best addressing your needs, participants will be asked to complete a brief online survey upon registration (available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FZ36N7F). This link will also be sent to all registrants directly from the webinar platform.

We were thrilled to have Old Town Elementary schoo We were thrilled to have Old Town Elementary school join our Nordic Rocks program this year thanks to funding from the @killingtonworldcupfoundation and the @sharewinterfoundation. We’re also grateful to Old Town’s PE teacher and community volunteers for spearheading the program on the ground. Old Town Elementary is located right on the University of Maine at Orono ski trails and near the Penobscot Valley Ski Club so students in the Nordic Rocks program have next step opportunities to ski outside of school right in their own community. Below are a few thoughts from Old Town Elementary School students after their first ski session:

❄️ “My joy today was trying skiing and my goal is to try skiing hills next time.”

❄️ “I want to be a world champion skier!”
